The Christophe Claret Aventicum, reference number MTR.AVE15.073, is inspired by the solid gold bust of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius which was found in 1939. The bust is one of the most fascinating objects excavated from the ruins of Aventicum - the capital of Roman Helvetia whose remains are found beside the modern town of Avenches in Switzerland. This timepiece is presented in an edition limited to only 38 units.
The case of the watch measures 44 mm in diameter and is made out of 18K white gold and anthracite PVD-coated titanium. Hours and minutes are displayed around chapter ring on the dial that also boasts a micro-engraved replica of the Marcus Aurelius bust. Measuring less than three millimeters, the miniature bust is displayed in magnified form thanks to a mirascope. The watch is equipped with the AVE15 movement that consists of 186 components, contains 28 jewels, and works at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour). The movement is wound automatically and builds up power reserve of 72 hours. The rotor of the movement is embellished with five numbered Roman Gaul racing chariots, and it is visible through the transparent case back. The watch is water-resistant to 30 meters and worn on a black alligator leather strap, secured on the wrist with a tang buckle.
